9-11 Incident Compare and Contrast

On September 11th 2001 terrorists attacked both the Twin Towers and the Pentagon. They succeeded in destroying the Twin Towers buildings. There have been many significant events in American History. Two, which stand above the others as turning points for the United States, are Pearl Harbor and the assassination of J.F. Kennedy.

Pearl Harbor changed the mindset of every American in the nation. It sent a message saying that we are not as safe and protected as we had previously assumed; that we are vulnerable to attack. This was similar to the 9-11 attacks because it was not expected, no one could have imagined this ever happening. It was so unbelievable to see two of the countries most important buildings filled with people topple down like toy blocks. It must have been just as unbelievable to hear that the countries largest naval base had been completely destroyed.

Another similarity is that they we're both caused by groups of people who disliked Americans. They were both crimes of hatred and evil. Though they bared some resemblances, they were also very different. Terrorists carried out 9-11 while the Japanese undertook the Pearl Harbor attack. Also the Pearl Harbor attack was done during wartime while the 9-11 attack occurred during peacetime.

Kennedy's assassination was just like Pearl Harbor and 9-11 a hate crime. It, just like 9-11, was carried out by people who carefully plotted to make a point by killing innocent people. Also it made an impact of people's points of view on safety issues. Kennedy was riding in a convertible car; the President would never be allowed to do that in these times.
