Dear Vice President Gore: I am a freshman at Bishop McGuiness High School in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. It is a Catholic school and being Catholic I have always been taught that abortion is not right. I am writing you today because I feel strongly about abortion, and I find it morally wrong.

My perception of when life begins is as soon as the egg has been fertilized. To my standards abortion is like murder. Some people's perception of life is when the unborn fetus has a heart or even up until it has been born. I believe that when two living things combine to make something else, that something else is living.

I am sure that you are aware of partial birth abortion. It is when the mother gives partial birth to her child at six months. Everything but the head of the child is extracted. Then the doctor inserts a pair of scissors into the back of the child's skull and opens them.

Then he inserts a tube and sucks the brains of the child out.

The child that is being killed is almost to its birth. It has a heart, it has brains, it has arms and legs, and it even kicks. Scientifically speaking, it has all the properties of a living organism. I find that to be murder.

Abortion is the most frequent surgery performed in the United States. There were 1.5 million abortions in the United States in 1992, not including five states and the 40-50% of cases not reported. There were 36 and 53 million abortions in the world in 1986. Abortion also increases your chances for a premature baby. Non-aborted women have a five percent chance of having a premature baby and aborted women have a 14 percent chance of having a premature...
