I often got young girls who would need parental consent to have the abortion, unless they got a Judicial Bypass-where an underage girl feels that she cannot get parental consent, for whatever reason, and will go before a judge in her county and the judge will determine whether she is competent enough to make her own decision about having an abortion. Anyway, one girl I saw was 12 years old and had her dad with her to sign for consent. I was doing her counseling and she was very reserved, almost silent. Through a great deal of talking, she told me that she was pregnant by her father. I kept her in my office and had the front desk call the police. The girl told me that the molestation had been going on for several years. If that girl hadn't had access to an abortion, she would've been forced to have her father's baby.

The truth is, this is one of the many reasons that abortion exists. There were estimated 36,458,656 abortions between 1937-1997, in the United States alone. Today is most commonly applied to artificially induced abortions.

Abortion ends a pregnancy by destroying and removing a developing fetus. In most cases, the heart has already begun to beat by the time the mother realizes she is pregnant. The fetus is usually not old enough to perform a surgical abortion, since these can only be preformed 49 days after conception.
