Abortion is an ongoing controversy that affects millions of Americans every year. Abortion is the removal of an embryo or fetus from the uterus in order to end a pregnancy (Dictionary.com). Millions of women receive abortions to end an unwanted pregnancy whether it's due to an accidental pregnancy or they just don't want to have a child. Abortions are highly popular among teenagers due to their young age and still being in high school. In 2008, there was an estimated 1.21 million abortions in the United States (Choices Pregnancy). Over a million innocent lives were taken away due to either accidental or unwanted babies. This is a statistic that grows exponentially every year due to millions of Americans not taking simple precaution before having sex. This results in the unwanted death of over a million babies.

This is and has been an ongoing problem throughout the entirety of America's generation. With simple steps and solutions, abortions can become a thing of the past.

So if abortion is so bad, why hasn't it been stopped? For one, birth control pills are often hard to obtain (Abort73). With over 3 million unwanted pregnancies, making birth control pills more accessible would eliminate hundreds of thousands of unwanted pregnancies (Abort73). This would then result in fewer abortions as well. Informing women on how to properly take and use these pills is another vital step in the prevention of unwanted pregnancies. If women did not know how to properly use them, the pills would become completely useless. Teaching the perks of these pills is something that would go a long way over time (Abort73).
