THE ACTIVITIES, AIMS AND OBJECTIVES OF MY CHOSEN BUSINESS

INTRODUCTION

In this unit I am attempting to investigate that how a business works. In order to do this I chose a large sized business with a good location, reliable staff, products and services.

The business which I have chosen is "Arriva"; it's a public limited company.

ARRIVA HISTORY

Arriva is a relatively new passenger services brand but its track record in transport goes back more than sixty years.

*1938 ---- The Cowie family open a second hand motorcycle

Repair shop in Sunderland.

*1960 ---- Cowie begins buying motor dealerships.

*1965 ---- Cowie becomes a public company(Cowie group

PLC).

*1980 ---- The group acquires grey green.

*1991 ---- Establishes vehicle rental.

*1994 ---- Further bus company acquisitions including Lea side

London South and British bus group.

*1997 ---- Arriva brand introduced.

*1997 ---- Operations expanded onto the European mainland.

*2000 ---- Arriva enters the UK rail market.

*2002 ---- Arriva enters the Italian bus market.

ARRIVA BUS SERVICES

Arriva plc is one of the leading transport services organization in Europe and it also one of the UK's largest bus operators, with over 6,000 vehicles. Arriva bus and coaches is one of Britain's largest bus and coach supply companies, from its base in Cleckheaton, West Yorkshire it buys, sells, rents, leases and finances both new and good quality used buses and coaches for operation throughout the UK. Arriva is also the biggest bus operator in London with over 20% of the capital's bus services, Arriva operates routes in some of the largest UK urban centers- including Glasgow, Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle, Leeds and Leicester as well as most of the home countries and some of the most remote and rural areas of the UK such as routes in the mountains of Snowdonia, Wales...
