What is adoption? Adoption is the legal act of permanently placing a child with a parent or parents other than the birthmother or birthfather. An adoption order has the effect of severing parental responsibilities and rights and transferring those responsibilities and rights to new adoptive parents. After the finalization of an adoption, there is no legal difference between adopted children and those born to the parents. And that means who adopted the children has the same responsibilities as their birthmother or father to take care of them. There are many reasons why someone would want to adopt a child. Perhaps a couple cannot conceive and bear children themselves. In other cases, a family wishes to share their lives with a child with special needs. As an increasing number of children are living in foster care, on the streets, and waiting at childcare agencies, an increasing number of unmarried adults are choosing to become parents through adoption.

In my point of view, if I never found the right partner, I would still want to parent alone through adoption because having a kid is a good experience to both the parents and to the children.

Adoption provides the child a good environment to grow up. With increasing numbers of children in foster care needing adoption services, single parents are stepping in to provide homes. The reasons which drive single parents to take action is because they understand children need love, nurturing, and stability to growth, and productive adults are available to do this. “A survey released earlier this year by Minnesota’s Department for Families and Children’s Services shows that men consider child care to be far more important than n handsome paycheck. Out of 600 dads surveyed, a majority said their most important role was to ‘show love and affection’ to kids. ‘Safety and protection’ came next, ‘moral guidance,’ tak[ing] time to play’ and ‘teaching and encouraging.’ ‘Financial care’ finished last.” (Course reader, p.304). According to this survey, we can see that providing love to kid is a very important concept. As long as there is love, adequate supervision, structure, and consistency a child raised by a single parent can grow to be just as successful and healthy as any other. Friends, relatives, money and sheer effort can help substitute for the missing spouse.

Also alike having a child is the natural ability to parent. Many single people have the talent and skills to raise children and they simply don't have a spouse. The reason why they want to have children is because it is a moral worth (In Sickness & In Health: Illness & Relationships lecture, 10-15-2008). Being a child parent is an opportunity to do a selfless act in terms to put the needs of the children ahead of their own. This is a self practice to satisfy ourselves in order to raise a child. By then, we can gain personal experience in opportunity to love children and, watch them develop, and create extremely close bonds with other human beings. In times of tragedy, parents have the expectation that their children will provide them with comfort, companionship and care when they are getting older (In Sickness & In Health: Illness & Relationships lecture, 10-15-2008). If a family member dies then they may leave a young child to be taken care of. This is a one of the advantages to adopt a child. And having a connection to the next generation is the most satisfied singles in their 20’s and 30’s (Cohabitation lecture, 9-24-2008).

Additionally, men can also benefit from adopting children. In compare to women, men tend to have different positions in work force, which in turn gives them higher salaries. So, some single men do not run into the economic issues that single women do. As a result fathers often do not communicate as well with their children as mothers do. However, fathers can have a great influence on their child because the best way for a son to learn to be a good father is by watching his own. Although raising a child on one's own can be very stressful on a person, but they can encounter some benefits. Single parents strengthen their parenting skills, their ability to manage families better, communication; they also become better with organization skills and are more dependable. These days’ fathers, married or single, have been changing their roles in the family setting. Today, they can be found more in helping kids in a classroom setting, they are involved in house chores, they help out in the kitchen and other previously considered "mother" roles. Before this, fathers just were not socialized to be primary caregivers. “Father today put much more focus on nuturing and caring for their kids than on the traditional breadwinner role.” (Course reader, p.304). Thus, being a single father is a good experience for us to learn about and eventually can have a better communication skill.

In conclusion, people adopt children for all sorts of reasons: suffering infertility, being a single parent, and wanting children etc. Now more than ever, there are children who need loving homes. Through adoption you can make a positive, life-long impact on these children as well as benefit society. It has also changed the way many families operate and function. Adoption helps not only children but it helps parents, single parents, families, and couples everywhere. Adoption is a huge part of American society, and has always been important to America's culture. It is more than giving a child a home, indeed it is about creating a family for children. As stated in the course reader, “unwed births among 30-to-40-year-olds rose 20 percent from 1991 to 2006, and last year alone, four in 10 U.S. babies were born outside of marriage even though teen pregnancies hit their lowest point in 65 years.” ( Course reader, p.299). This shows that more people are willing to have babies without marriage. If anyone found it’s difficult to raise a child alone, it is very important for the adoptive parent to work with an attorney and ask for help or advises. Whenever a person dealing with issues as important as family, and children, it is well worth the expense involved to insure that all is done properly. Even if the adoptive parents have found a birth mother on their own, they should still work with an attorney to make sure everything is done right. Thus parent alone is good for both men and women through adoption or artificial insemination or etc.
