Acquired immune deficiency syndrome, or aids, is a recently recognized disease. It is caused by infection with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). Aids is a complicated illness that may involve several phases. It is caused by a virus that can be passed from person to person. It is not only infecting individuals but, also our society. Until a cure is recovered it will continue to plague human society. No person will ever be truly safe.

Aids stands for acquired immunodeficiency or sometimes known as immune deficiency syndrome. It results from infection with a virus called HIV, which stands for human immunodeficiency virus.

Amongst our modern day society there are many confusions regarding aids. Many individuals seem to believe that HIV and aids are the same issue. However, the terms aids refers to an advanced stage of HIV infection, when the immune system has sustained substantial damage. Not everyone who encounters HIV infection is exposed to aids.

When HIV progresses to aids, however, it has proved to be a universally fatal illness. Few people actually survive five years from the time they are diagnosed with aids, although this is increasing with improvements in treatment techniques.

What causes aids?

Aids is caused by the incurable HIV virus. Aids is a deadly disease that deteriorates the immune system. Aids simply arise via infection by HIV. HIV is a type of virus called a retrovirus. Like all viruses, it must invade the cells of other organisms in order to survive and reproduce. There are at present day two forms of HIV which exist. HIV-1 is the most common version and more potent form of HIV. This form of HIV has spread throughout the world.
