Systems development life cycle, also known as SDLC, is the process that will be used to design a new HR system for Riordan Manufacturing. This paper will focus on the planning, design and implementation phases of SDLC. Section 1 of the paper will describe information-gathering techniques and design methods for Riordan Manufacturing service request SR-rm-004. Analysis of the human resource system will be discussed, followed by identifying key factors which will help ensure that the information required for the project is gathered successfully, and give an explanation of the scope and feasibility of the project. Section 2 will describe steps to take when going from analysis to design. A description of the application architecture and process design will be explained. In Addition section 2 will reveal how to apply the tools of systems analysis to describe the information systems architecture in terms of data, processes, interfaces and network. Section 2 will also contain a data flow diagram.

Section 3 will cover the implementation stage of the project. It will discuss the six major activities for the implementation phase consisting of: (1) coding, (2) testing, (3) installation, (4) documentation, (5) training, and (6) support. Finally benefits of using defined and repeatable processes for the six items above will be discussed.

Section 1The IT department has received a request to analyze the HR system at Riordan Manufacturing. COO Hugh McCauley is looking for a single integrated application of the existing tools that are used today in the HR system. HR would like to take advantage of a more sophisticated, state-of-the art, information systems technology as well. Next will be to use requirements modeling to gather information needed to begin developing the system explained above (Shelly, Cashman,Rosenblatt,2003, p.96). Fact-finding techniques will be used in the process to gather the requirements. Campbell Consulting Group...
