Hi, my name is , and this is my school report on Mayans.

For as long as I have known about them Mayans have held a special interest to me. Questions like, When did they start on their civilization? Or why are they no longer around? And how is it that they are so much like Egyptians when they live thousands of miles apart? Have kept me on the edge of my seat for a long time now. And this report was the first chance to really get into it, so I hope you have as much fun reading this as I had making it.

Introduction

The Mayan civilization is one of the most spectacular civilizations in earth's history. They made many remarkable discoveries that we figured out centuries later. And was one of the most prosperous cultures in all of South America.

Mayan History

First you should know that the Mayan Empire started around 2600BC in the area known now as Guatemala Mexico and ended in the 1500s. In the history of Mayans there are three main periods of time, pre-classic, classic, and Post-classic. Between 800BC-300ad the pre-classic period was a time for the basic advancements in society, things like a written language and some astronomy were developed. Arts such as sculpting and painting were common; they also built most of their pyramids during this time. But most cities were built in "Highlands" an area of land that is just about 4000 feet above sea level. Cities like Chichen Itza that are near the coast were almost nonexistent.
