Andy Heyward graduated from UCLA in 1975, and then joined Hanna-Barbera as writer and story editor. In 1980, Heyward Joined DIC Audiovisual and moved to France, where he developed "Inspector Gadget." In 1982 he returned to Los Angeles to produce cartoons for the American market. Heyward also spearheaded two conferences involving representatives from the National PTA, National Education Association, UCLA, Stanford, and Broadcasters. He was nominated thirteen times for Emmy awards, and has actually received Emmy, Cable Ace, Environmental Media, Golden Reel, and Humanitas Prize awards. Now Heyward serves on the board of directors for Mediascope, a non-profit educational organization whose mission is to educate media creators about the behavioral impact of their programs. He also serves on the Board of Directors for National Center for Missing and Exploited children. Inspector Gadget served as the Center's national spokesperson. Heyward surprisingly speaks four different languages. He and his wife Evelyn celebrated their 20th anniversary this year.

They have three children, Robert, 16; Michael, 13; and Bianca, 9.

DiC produces an average of 200 half - hours of programming per year and produced more than 1800 episodes under Heyward's lead. DiC owned over 60 properties. All since they established its North American presence. In the 1999 - 2000 TV season alone, the company had broadcasted more the 20 regular series and is watched by about 25 million kids in the U.S. each week.

DiC produces programming for kids of all ages. They have made fun-learning cartoons and shows like Muppet Babies, for the youngest ones.
