Anorexia Nervosa

Anorexia nervosa is an illness that usually occurs in females, but can also occur in males as well. People with this disorder are obsessed with being thin. Their biggest fear is gaining weight, and gaining weight is seen as a loss of control. They believe they are fat even though they become thinner and thinner. People with Anorexia feel safe, secure, and comfortable with their illness.

Anorexia isn't just a problem with food or weight, it's an attempt to use food and weight to deal with emotional problems and gain control. People with this disorder use weight loss as a way to control their bodies. People will starve themselves, avoid eating high-calorie foods, and exercise constantly. Someone with Anorexia will start out dieting to lose weight. Eventually, losing weight soon becomes an obsession or addiction just like gambling or smoking. It makes them feel like they are good at something, good at losing weight.

Anorexia can have very harmful effects on peoples lives and it can affect their families along the way.

Although there are some causes of Anorexia, the reason some people develop the disorder isn't known. Some people may believe they would be happier if they were thinner. They might want everything in their life to be perfect and they blame themselves if everything isn't. Some other causes might be the fear of gaining weight, or someone who always thinks they are fat may become anorexic. They might be pressured into being thin and attractive when they see the perfect models on t.v.

Treatment of anorexia is difficult because people suffering with this disorder either believe that there is nothing wrong with them, or they try to hide it. But, It is possible to have a successful recovery. In order to do so, patients must want...
