Anti-Arab American, Muslim, Islam, Middle Eastern and South Asian hate crimes rose tremendously following the September 11 attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. Within five months of the terrorist attacks 600 related hate crimes were reported throughout the United States, according to the Council of American-Islamic Relations.

President George Bush has been among those who have pled for tolerance toward Arab and Muslim Americans, saying, "Our nation must be mindful that there are thousands of Arab-Americans who love their flag just as much as we do, and we must be mindful that as we seek to win the war that we treat Arab-Americans and Muslims with the respect they deserve (http://racerelations.about.com)."

Many celebrities took it to their advantage to create songs to influence the American people that there is a better way and not to attack fellow Americans based on their race. Since the start of 2003, hate groups and hate crimes and finally started to gradually decrease thanks to the efforts of many American people.
