Antigone The play Antigone is a famous tragedy, written by Sophecles, a well- known Greek poet. This story is about a conflict between Antigone and Creon over the burial of her brother Polyneices. Creon wants Polyneices' body left where he lay dead because he fought against the city of Thebes. Antigone, being that of Polyneices' own flesh and blood thinks it is of good will to bury him, but by doing this she knows Creon will be furious and will make her suffer the consequences. Creon is not very understanding and full of ignorance when he finds out that Antigone has indeed buried her brother. He at once wants her locked up because she has defied his word, regardless of the morals behind it. When he learns that she has hung herself he soon realizes that what he has done was a mistake, for he should have done the right thing to begin with.

When Antigone's brothers, Polyneices and Etocles die in battle, Creon sets up an edict of the state that says for no one to bury Polyneices because he fought against Thebes. Antigone doesn't think that Creon is right and goes against him to bury Polyneices regardless. Creon finds this out and becomes enraged. He calls for Antigone to be brought forth and locked up at once because she purposely went against his word. He will not listen to anything she says because of his ignorance. "It was my brother not his slave that died"� pg. 213 His egotism overcomes his right mind and he does not see the real picture. Antigone was only doing what she felt was right.
