The disadvantages of moving from arranged marriage to freely chosen spouse selection:

High divorce rate, abuse and loss of psychological and economical support are some of the disadvantages of moving from arranged marriage to freely chosen spouse selection.

Though the emotional scars of divorce can't be financially determined, it costs billions of dollars per year. Besides, the impact of divorce is devastating to innocent victims like children.

Arranged marriage tends to be a union of two families of strong moral, spiritual and cultural values. Living with the extended family (brother, sisters, and relatives of both families) means a free staff for taking care of children. Apart from the economic savings of a family home, shocks such as a death or the loss of a job can be absorbed. Irreconcilable divorce can be handled will less emotional, social and economical consequences. The system also cares for elderly parents and grandparents who are generally in modern societies suffer the despair of feeling isolated in a cold world.

In Arranged marriage, abuse especially physical abuse is significantly low. Arranged marriage is a buffer against every foul in between the parties; it provides checks and balances against areas that may splinter it, such as infidelity and abuse.
