What is art? What do you consider to be beautiful or peaceful? No two people would have answered these questions the same. Art in a physical sense is the expression of creativity and imagination, typically in a visual form such as paintings and sculptures or even dance and music, literature even. Many people express their creativity differently. Art is more difficult to define then what one might define it as.

In the textbook the author quotes Pablo Picasso, "Everyone wants to understand art. Why not try to understand the song of a bird? Why does one love the night, flowers, everything around one without them trying to understand them? But in the case of a painting, people have to understand". I agree with that statement. Art shouldn't be about understanding what the artist is painting or sculpting but about appreciating and finding the beauty in the message the artist is trying to portray.

We don't try to decipher dance choreography, or a piano piece but many of us find these particular activities to be peaceful and beautiful.

What do you find peaceful? What do you consider beautiful? Does a walk on the beach or a midnight walk fall into these categories? Are you the type of person who likes to stop and smell the flowers as you're walking by a garden or are you the type to go somewhere secluded and just watch nature as it is? Our definition of what is peaceful and beautiful might not be the same. What I might find beautiful and consider art might be totally different from what someone else might consider art.
