In my mind, art is anything created by man to beautify the world. But how I perceive things, isn't always correct. I wanted to know the true meaning, so I looked it up on the internet. It seems everyone has a different idea of what art is. Ask.com (2006) has many definitions of art as a noun. They are as follows:

1.Human effort to imitate, supplement, alter, or counteract the work of nature.

2. a. the conscious production or arrangement of sounds, colors, forms, movements, or other elements in a manner that affects the sense of a beauty, specifically the production of the beautiful in a graphic or plastic medium.

b.the study of these activities.

c.the product of these activities; human works of beauty considered as a group

3.High quality of conception or execution, as found in works of beauty; aesthetic value

4.A field or category of art, such as ballet, music or literature

There are more definitions, too many to list. It seems that not one website can agree on what art truly is, so my definition is also correct.

The next step of my assignment is to find 8 different types of art. I am then to describe it, explain why it fits the definition of art, and submit the URL for each one.

The painting I chose is The Pond at Montgeron by Claude Monet. The URL is www.hermitagemuseum.org/html_en/03/hm3_3_1_8n.html. It depicts a person beside a pond peering in. There are trees reflecting in the pond as well as the person's silhouette.

By the hues and intensity of the yellows and oranges of the trees in the background, my guess is that this picture was to hint of the impending fall season (State Hermitage Museum, 2006). His recreation of the surroundings...
