Athenian women did not participate in politics because of the common view that they were untrustworthy. These women were seldom educated and were never allowed to be in the presence of other males that were not in the immediate family.

Athenian women were seldom educated. Only the wealthiest and most spoiled of daughters received the chance of even the smallest education. Because Athenian women were never educated they did not know what was happening in the city, outside of the city, or anything else going on in the world. The only things they were allowed to have an interest in were childbearing, and housework. They didn't know there was anything better out there.

Because Athenian men held their property and the lasting influence of their family name so dear their women were not allowed communication with other men outside of their immediate family. These women never really had true lives, they were raised to bear children and act demurely.

They never went anywhere without a chaperone.

Athenian women were not allowed to lead real lives; they did not know what was out there because they were uneducated because men lusted after them they were viewed as untrustworthy. Athenian women did not participate in politics because of the common view that they were untrustworthy.
