John Eric Ensign was born in Roseville, California on March 25th, 1958. He married Darlene Sciaretta, and together they had three children Trevor, Siena, and Michael. This American politician has been a Republic member of the United States House of Representatives since 1995. He has currently taken on the role as the 24th United States Senator for Nevada.

Furthermore although, John was born in California he was raised in northern Nevada. His mother remarried Michael S. Ensign, a gaming industry executive who soon after adopted John. Consequently, Michael became chairman of the board of directors of Mandalay Bay. The family moved to southern Nevada where John graduated in 1976, from Clark High School. He attended University of Nevada, Las Vegas in 1979 and transferred to Oregon State University where he received his Bachelor’s degree, in 1981. He furthered his education at Colorado State University, Fort Collins where he earned his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree, in 1985.

Directly after he began practicing veterinary medicine and soon after, he opened the first 24-hour animal hospital in 1987 in West Flamingo, and South Shores, Las Vegas in 1994.

Ensign was elected to the United States House of Representatives in the Republican landslide of 1994; in addition he was then reelected in 1996. He was then succeeded by Shelley Berkley in 1998. Ensign tried to expand his political career by running for the Senate but was defeated by Harry Reid the Democrat in office, by 428 votes. Ensign finally won a Senate seat during his second try in 2000. He defeated Ed Bernstein, the Democratic opponent by a 40 – 55 percent margin, and succeeded the retiring Democrat in office Richard H.
