Black September and The 1972 Olympic Games
Seventeen dead, ten Israeli athletes and one Israeli wrestling referee murdered in cold blood and five Black September terrorists and one German police officer killed during a gun battle. Terrorism is "[the]...use or threatened use of force or violence by a person or an organized group against people or property with the intention of intimidating or coercing societies or governments..." (Dictionary.com/terrorism). Black September were a group of terrorists whom on September 5, 1972, at the Munich Olympic Games, took eleven Israeli hostages and began demanding the release of prisoners in both Israeli and German jails.
Black September was a terror organization formed by the Palestine Liberation Organization, otherwise known as the PLO, to use terror tactics to keep the flame of resistance alive. Black September was named by a group of PLO members, primarily because Yasser Arafat was against any terror tactics taking place under the name of the PLO; Arafat was the one who suggested the use of a new name (Black September).

The terrorists did not have a difficult time breaking into the Olympic village. At around 4:30 am (Israeli 1972 Olympic Team Murdered in Munich) five Arab terrorists wearing different colored track suits carrying athletic bags concealing automatic guns and hand grenades (Olan 302) scaled the fence around the Olympic compounds; no security guards were on duty, and in an attempt to keep "the smiling, brotherly spirit of the Games" no barbed wire was fixed to the top of the fences (Groussard 2). Once inside the fence the five were met by three others who had gained entrance to the compounds with credentials (Israeli 1972 Olympic Team Murdered in...
