Bob Dylan is one of the most important artists for popular music. He was renowned for being a song writer, singer and musician. Many of his songs criticized the problems of society. He was born on May 24, 1941 in Duluth, Minnesota. Bob's name at birth was Robert Allen Zimmerman. He was the son of a middle-class store owner. As a teenager he lived in Hibbing, Minnesota and was a fan of James Dean movies, enjoyed riding motorcycles and listened to R&B music on the radio. He really liked folk singer Odetta and country star Hank Williams and was interested in the early rock "˜n' roll. He began playing music with his school friends in the bands Golden Chords and Elston Gunn And The Rock Boppers. In these first bands he was the piano player. In high school his dream was "to join Little Richard"�. When Bob graduated from high school he enrolled in the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis.

In Minneapolis he discovered blues music and began to incorporate blues tunes into his folk songs. Dylan began to play at local clubs and coffee-houses but he was not yet known as an extraordinary performer. He began to sing and talk with an okie twang. In Denver Bob met blues performer Jesse Fuller. Jesse could play the guitar and the harmonica at the same time. Dylan was interested in this style and began to teach himself to play both instruments...
