The two texts I am comparing is the novel The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas and the movie Life is Beautiful. Both texts relate as they were based around the time of WWII and when the Jews were sent to concentration camps under the power of the German soldiers. The movie and the novel were both tragic as we got to see for ourselves what it was like to be in a concentration camp and how it can affect someone, but I found that The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas had a more emotional impact on me rather than Life is Beautiful.

The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas is about a nine year old boy named Bruno who moves with his family from Berlin to Poland during WWII for his father's job. Bruno is quite oblivious to the whole situation but he has actually moved into a house which is set right next to a concentration camp which his father runs.

Bruno goes out one day to explore due to boredom, which he is forbidden to do. While exploring Bruno notices a boy sitting on the other side of a fence. The boy's name is Shmuel, and without Bruno realising Shmuel is actually a Jew who lives in the concentration camp. Bruno and Shmuel spend quite some time together and become good friends, even though they are on different sides of the fence. One day Bruno decides to climb under the fence to help Shmuel find his Papa who is missing. While Bruno and Shmuel are in the concentration camp and are about to give up on looking for Shmuel's Papa they get caught up with the other Jewish people who are getting pushed into a small room.
