Bridgestone / Firestone as a company can trace its history back 1900. Since then Bridgestone / Firestone has undergone many changes. Today 109 years later Bridgestone / Firestone has work to ensure their name is one associated with a number of quality products and innovations. Bridgestone / Firestone is also an active in the communities with projects such as rebuilding schools and houses.

Firestone Tire and Rubber Company was founded in 1900 by Harvey S Firestone in Akron, Ohio and started production with only 12 employees. On the other side of the Globe Shojiro Ishibasi created Bridgestone Tire Company Ltd. in 1931. The name Bridgestone was taken from the English translations of Ishibashi which mean Stone Bridge. In 1988 the Bridgestone Corporation purchased Firestone for $2.6 billion making Bridgestone / Firestone the world's largest tire and rubber company. (Bridgestone, 2009)

In an effort to enhance its core business units and address customers needs and wants' Bridgestone / Firestone now does owns several operating units and subsidiaries including: Bridgestone Tire Operations, Bridgestone Retail Operations, Bridgestone Bandag Tire Solutions, Firestone diversified Products as well as international manufacturing and sales located in over 10 countries.

Today thought the world Bridgestone / Firestone employees over 53,000 people in the Americas alone. (Bridgestone, 2009)

Bridgestone / Firestone as a company is committed to being a good corporate citizen nationally, regionally and especially in the communities where they have plants, sales facilities, retail locations and offices. Since 1952 Bridgestone / Firestone Americas Trust Fund has supported charitable and philanthropic endeavors that fit into one of three major categories: education, the welfare of children, and the environment and conservation.
