Emily had trouble letting go of her loved ones in the short story and due to this insecurity, she went mad in "A Rose for Emily" by William Faulkner. After her father passed away, the thought of strangers coming to take her father away from her was too much for her to handle. "Miss Emily met them at the door, dressed as usual and with no trace of grief on her face. She told them that her father was not dead"(428.) When people gave her their condolences, she would reject them as a result of denying the otherwise obvious truth. Her father's death was a traumatic experience and ever since that day, she had problems letting go and would be scared to lose another loved one. Due to this psychological imbalance, she decided to kill her next love, Homer Barron. She would then keep his body upstairs and feel emotionally secure to have him in her household.
