Specific Purpose: To inform my audience of the negative effects of bullying.

Central Idea: Shoving, punching, aggressive, and hurtful behavior, also known as bullying, is attributed to children that are either bullied themselves, want to feel more powerful or popular, or just don't know any different, and cause a wide range of negative effects on their victims, which include a range of symptoms from low self-esteem to suicide.

Bullying

Good evening, Classmates. I have a lot of information to cover, so let's get started.

"I'm going to kill you" were the words of a fellow 3rd grader in Penny's classroom!

Shoving, punching, aggressive, and hurtful behavior, also known as bullying, is attributed to children that are either bullied themselves, want to feel more powerful or popular, or just don't know any different, and cause a wide range of negative effects on their victims, which include a range of symptoms from low self-esteem to suicide.

Tonight I am going to discuss what bullying is, why kids bully, and the negative effects of bullying. For now, I want to share with you the rest of Penny's story.

When Penny was 6 years old in the first grade, Penny came home and told her mom that Alex*, a boy in her class, would beat up her other friends because Alex wanted only Penny to play with him, and that she had to be his girlfriend or he would hurt her. Alex also said he was going to have sex with her. Penny assured her mom that she knew there was no such thing as sex, after all, she was in the first grade, but Penny still perceived this as threatening.
