During the last Christmas season, when expected to make most of their year's income, retailers fell short of their goal. Many stores such as Wal-Mart Stores Inc., Gap Inc., Sears Holdings Corp., and Kohl's Corp. were among the disappointments. But there were some winning retailers this year such as, Target Corp., Costco Wholesale Corp., upscale stores such as Nordstrom Inc., and teen retailers such as Abercrombie and Fitch Co.

I believe this is because retailers like Wal-Mart Stores Inc., Gap Inc., Sears Holdings Corp., and Kohl's Corp. that don't sell kids or teen goods didn't do well because parents spent all their money on their children instead of themselves to make them happy. But retailers like Target Corp., Costco Wholesale Corp., upscale stores such as Nordstrom Inc., and teen retailers such as Abercrombie and Fitch Co. did well because they sell goods that kids want. I also believe this because the retailers that sell teen and kids goods did better then the retailers that don't sell anything for teen and kids because the kids and teen retailers promoted their goods better then the other retailers did.

When consumers only have so much consumers to spend during the holiday season they are very selective of what they will buy and make purchases mainly for their children.
