EXECUTIVE SUMMARY The purpose of this report was to analyse the business communication issues affecting the efficient operation of Fairbrother, Fraser and Price, being a small civil engineering firm. The main objective was to identify key communication problems and offer recommendations as to their possible resolution.

Communication and management problems were identified in four areas within the organisation. The four activities were considered the core issues in which to offer advice to help restore, and then create, a more effective and efficient communication and management environment within the organisation of Fairbrother, Fraser and Price.

The four areas identified which have resulted in Fairbrother, Fraser and Price being a company experiencing conflict between the partners are: · a lack of effective inter-partner communication.

· unclear organisational and individual expectations.

· non-structured and ineffective boardroom meetings.

· a display of poor group leadership, communication and management skills.

Accordingly it was recommended that each partner be advised of these shortcomings and as a group, ?start again? with the redefined company expectations.

This included establishing more effective lines of communication and the drafting of a detailed inter-partnership agreement which explicitly identified the individual partners? responsibilities within the organisation. Finally it was recommended that meeting procedures be reviewed in order to provide a more formal method of discussing vitally important company strategy, policy and goals for the future.
