The main problem in this case study is that the Mission statement,

"With the foundation and commitment of our spiritual heritage and values, our mission is to promote the health and well-being of the people in the communities we serve through a comprehensive continuum of services provided in collaboration with the partners who share the same vision and values.", speaks of integrity and well-being of the community. The Problems in the study are based on finances; the talk is to reduce costs. Anytime costs are reduced no matter who or what the reductions are done for something happens, the product suffers. In this case study the product is people.

Next there are tens of thousands of deaths each year due to medical negligence and errors. Why does this happen? Are the doctors trying to hurry and cut costs? Are they under too much pressure to save a buck? Lives should be included.

Costs are increasing and they the individuals faced with the issue are more concerned with how to cut costs without cutting quality. I understand that business is business but when you look at the mission statement the contradiction is apparent. "our mission is to promote the health and well-being of the people in the communities we serve through a comprehensive continuum of services provided in collaboration with the partners who share the same vision and values.", This sentence is in complete opposition with the "cost cutting techniques".

The number crunching is essential in business but when lives are in jeopardy the human lives must be first. People are not numbers. When the people in the the case study speak of the cost cutting idea the quality as stated earlier will decrease. The mission statement implies that patent care is of the utmost importance.
