Change in Matter Purpose The purpose of this experiment is to show a change of state in a substance, and to find out what happens to the temperature during a change of state.

Hypothesis If the ice cube melts, it will turn into water, if the water boils, it will change into a gas, if the gas condenses, it will turn back into water.

Materials 2- ice cubes Bunsen burner Evaporating dish Sheet metal Thermometer Beaker Procedure We will take the ice cube, put it in the dish, and melt it. After it is melted into water, we will take the water, and boil it. As the gas rises under the metal plate, it will condense and turn back into water.

Data What We Changed What We Measured State Temperature Weight of beaker- 132.10g Weight of ice- 104.68g Temperature of ice per min.- 6 degrees Celsius, 5 degrees, 4 degrees, 3 degrees, 3 degrees, 8 degrees, 19 degrees, 35 degrees Weight of Water- 103.81

g Temperature of water per min.- 70 degrees, 85 degrees, 95 degrees, 97 degrees, 97 degrees, 97 degrees, 97 degrees, 97 degrees Weight of boiled water- 73.93g Temperature of gas per minute- 80 degrees, 79 degrees, 80 degrees, 80 degrees, 81 degrees, 82 degrees, 82 degrees, 81 degrees Conclusion: That the temp. changes with each change of state. This relates with the real world by showing how showing the water cycle. How ice can change into water and the water will change into a gas and the gas will go into the atmosphere and get cold and condense into water or a solid then the cycle will start all over again.
