In 1964, Optimal Health Services began as Medical Pharmacy, a Good Neighbor Pharmacy in downtown Bakersfield. In less than thirty years, it has expanded into a multi-million dollar company providing in-home services to our community and the surrounding areas. It was the invision of Optimal Health Services' owner, Clark Gustafuson, to be the ultimate "one-stop-shop" for home care. The company provides home infusion for adults and pediatrics, hospice, extended care, respiratory care, home health, enteral supplies, personal home services, two retail pharmacies and compounding services within the home. In addition, Optimal has specialized programs for premature infants, skilled nursing facilities and Hepititis C. Since the beginning, Optimal Health Services has always been at the forefront of home-care services.

The ever-changing health care industry has kept Optimal Health Services constantly looking for new ideas and products. The company has gone to "team-based" departments, giving each individual a sense of ownership. Each department has the ability to flex schedules to fit the needs of the employees and their individual desires.

Understanding that change is the only constant in our lives, Optimal Health Services inserviced, and continues to inservice, the entire company on change. Within the company, change is very proactive. Each year Optimal Health Services changes their guidelines and programs to comply with the changing regulations of Medi-Care, Medi-Cal and the various HMOs. Realizing that insurance, whether public or private, dictate the health care industry Optimal developes programs around these organizations to ensure maximum utilization and growth potential.

The efforts of expanding the service area for Optimal health Services has been limited by the Medi-Care and Medi-Cal licensing regulations. However, within the past 5 years, Optimal has grown its' home health and infusion service area from Kern County to include Ridgecrest, Lancaster / Palmdale, Tulare County and Ventura County.
