Christopher Columbus Everyone knows about how Christopher Columbus sailed the ocean blue in 1492, and how his journey to Asia turned out to be America. Even if you didn't take a history class you still know the same old thing about Columbus. I'm going to tell you a little of what happened on his journeys. But also I'm going to tell you the other side of Columbus, like how many brothers and sisters he had, and other things about him before and after he took his journey. I thought it might be interesting to tell you about some things that you dint know about Columbus. But the things you always wondered about.

In 1451 Susanna Fontanarossa, wife of Domenico Colombo gave birth to their fist child Christoforo Colombo, in the city of Genoa. Since he was the fist born he was the oldest of his three brothers and one sister.

His three brothers were Giovanni, Bartolomeo, and Giacomo. The name of his one sister was Bianchinetta.

Since Columbus grew up in one of the major port cities in Genoa Columbus grew up knowing a lot about the sea. Columbus had his first taste of the sea in when he was twenty-five years old in 1476. He saw how treacherous the sea could get at times. While he was on his first time out at sea through the strait of Gibraltar, the French attacked him and the people on the ship. It was a horrible battle, with both side suffering and both sides had much lost. The vessel that Columbus was on sunk, so Columbus had to try to swim to the nearest land and that ended up to be Portugal. Columbus was really lucky that he even made it to land and did not die.
