História
No ano de 1879 reuniu-se um pequeno grupo de pesquisadores da Verdade para deliberar sobre a fundação de uma igreja sem credos, que deveria chamar-se "Church of Christ, Scientist". Eram membros de igrejas evangélicas, haviam estudado a Ciência Cristã com a Sra. Mary Baker Eddy e eram conhecidos como "Cientistas Cristãos"
Numa reunião da Associação de Cientistas Cristãos, realizada em 12 de abril de 1879, foi votada, por proposta da Sra. Eddy, a resolução de: organizar uma igreja destinada a comemorar a palavra e as obras do Mestre (Cristo Jesus), à qual cumpre restabelecer o cristianismo primitivo e seu elemento de cura, que se havia perdido.
A Sra. Eddy foi nomeada membro da comissão encarregada de redigir os "Artigos de Fé da Igreja Mãe", cuja pedra angular é que a Ciência Cristã, tal como o Mestre a ensinou e demonstrou, expulsa o erro, cura os doentes e recupera os extraviados de Israel.
O alvará para o funcionamento da Igreja foi concedido em junho de 1879 e, no mesmo mês, os membros (26 pessoas) convidaram Mary Baker Eddy para sua pastora. Aceito o convite, foi ela ordenada em 1881. embora atravessasse águas profundas, a pequena Igreja progrediu com firmeza, engrossando suas fileiras e dizendo a cada passo: "até aqui o senhor nos ajudou".
Em 23 de setembro de 1892, a pedido da Rev. Mary Baker Eddy, doze de seus alunos e membros da Igreja reuniram-se e reorganizaram, sob a jurisdição dela, A Igreja da Ciência Cristã, à qual deram o nome de "The First Church of Christ, Scientist".
