His parent's names were Archulus Lillie Persons. His parents got divorced when he was four. He took the name of his stepfather Joseph Garcia Capote. His aunts in Monroeville, Alabama, raised him for the first decade of his life. IN Monroeville he met Nelle Harper Lee. He based the character Idabel Tompkins on his first novel "Other voices, other rooms." In return she turned him into Dill Harris in her book "To Kill A Mockingbird." After his mom remarried they moved to New York. There he went to private schools.
