How and Why Did Australia's Relationship With England and the USA Change as a Result of World War II?

Before World War 2 Australia's main alliance was with Britain. As the war went on Australia became worried as it did not believe Britain could defend Australia because of this Australia looked to the USA for help.

On the 27th of December 1941 John Curtain announced that it now looked to the USA for assistance having withdrawn troops from the Middle East to look after the home front. The relationship with America was no more than equal than with Britain. The USA provided most of the sea and air transport; Australia provided most of the troops. Despite these efforts Japan captured Guam, Wake Island and Hong Kong and drove the Americans out of the Philippines.
