Marijuana and alcohol can be compared and contrasted in various ways, they are both commonly used by teens, and both drugs can become addictive. These two drugs are used for medical purposes in special situations, but they also can be life destroying.

Marijuana is the most popular illegal drug in the country. An average of 65 to 70 million American's currently smoke the drug. Marijuana is a mixture of leaves, stems, and flowering tops of the Indian plant Cannabis Sativa. This drug is commonly abused by today's youth. It is a very popular drug for teens because it gives them a sense of relaxation. Often at parties, youth are getting high because they think it is cool. This is an excuse for youth to have fun, and when they are high time or place is not a problem. They do not really care where they are or what kind of people they are around all because they are under the influence of marijuana.

If someone decides not to get high, that person is not considered being cool among those using the drug. This drug is usually illegal, but the drug is legal when used for medical purposes. Patients who are critically ill and are suffering from deadly diseases such as AIDS, cancer, glaucoma, spinal spastic, and epileptic seizures use marijuana as a medicine to relieve their pain. Some of teens today use this excuse to smoke marijuana, also known as "weed." This drug is everywhere, and believe it or not, is one of the easiest drugs to obtain.

In the United States today, there is another serious problem plaguing families and people everywhere. This problem is alcohol abuse and alcohol addiction, and both are problems that will not go away. Alcohol is a legal substance only if the consumer is...
