INTRODUCTION

Have you ever wondered how a company is able to share all its information between all those computers within, or how someone is able to send information from a computer to somewhere else without using the internet? In most cases the rational person would think that every computer is connected by cords and wires that span across the entire building infrastructure through one massive holding cord. In all actuality these computers are connected to a network which can be wireless or wired depending upon how much money the company is willing to spend in order to create this network. Through out this enlightenment paper the object is help you the reader become empowered with the knowledge of computer networking.

WHAT IS NETWORKING?

So what is computer networking? "Networking is the practice of linking computing devices together with hardware and software that supports data communications across these devices."(Mitchell,1)

Computer networks can be separated into several different categories. The three that are used most often are LAN (local area networks) and WAN (wide area networks), but there will also be a brief look at the other networks that are available. Another section that will be discussed is the difference between wireless and wired networks and which is better. The basic principal is to inform you the reader of what is really going on within these companies, and even in your homes.

LANs

"A LAN supplies networking capability to a group of computers in close proximity to each other such as in an office building, a school, or a home."
