"Texas State University: A New Chapter of My Life"

"Never stop dreaming or let anybody stop you from accomplishing your dreams because I do not want for you to suffer and go through difficult times like I did." These words are etched in my mind after listening to my mother. A mother who is proud to have her son as a first-generation student in a university. Freire's concept of education as a conversation among equals disagrees with the banking concept stating that is not a proper way to learn or educate students. Both concepts seems to work for me because college is not just a choice, it's the beginning of a lifelong journey, one that will shape and determine future choices, decisions and purposes. This will help me reach and achieve my goals of receiving a Political Science degree, learn and develop new critical thinking skills, and experience the feeling of living alone.

Attending college for thousands of students is not a right but a privilege. The reason I say this is because just as we have thousands of students attending college every year we also have thousands that wish they could, but can't due to financial needs and other circumstances. I came to Texas State University because I want to major in Political Science which suggests that their department is really good. This specific major among others requires a lot of time and dedication because it's not an easy course to understand and be able to memorize everything which suggests that, in order to do well I need to be able to apply different methods of learning. For example, in Freire's essay "The Banking Concept", he implies that the way teachers nowadays educate their students is by just lecturing a whole bunch of material expecting for them...
