Pina, Alberto SS&C 3-4, Per. 1 Dec. 12, 2001 Species Extinction Species extinction is any kind of species that die out or no longer exist. If all species die, humans will no longer be able to live on the earth. Some important components of an ecosystem are: soil, radiation from the sun, water, and living organisms. Without any species of animals and plants, humans would not be able to live on this earth because they would all die. Extinct animals are species of an animal becomes extinct when everyone of its kind has died. There are many types of extinction, trilobites, eohippus, Hyracotherium, ECT. Too man species are dieing out due to humans destroying the ecosystem.

Species extinction is caused by humans destroying the ecosystem. Most extinct animals died out because of changes in their environment, such as cooling of the climate, the loss of their food source, or destruction of their habitat.

Humans would not be able to live without species. Humans are destroying our economy at a fast rate. Extinction is low compared to the coming years. There wouldn't be a living earth without plants and animals. Extinction, Pollution, and Deforestation are some compounds involved with species extinction. With pollution, plants and animals would eventually die because of all of the chemicals in the air that they breathe and with deforestation all animals habitat would change and it would be hard to get used to another environment. The causes of species extinction are from humans destroying the species habitat or chopping down trees. Too many species are becoming extinct.

Species extinction has an impact on society because we wouldn't be able to eat plants and animals. In 1990, the otter died out in the Netherlands, and in 1991 Britain declared the mouse-eared bat extinct. Some species whose populations are reduced by habitat loss below the level necessary for long-term survival may hang on for several decades without hope of recovery as their population dwindles. These are called the Living Dead. Some solutions to solve this problem is to stop cut down on pollution, stop cutting down trees and forest, and band and stop all hunting. Some organizations and government agencies involved in finding a solution to stop species extinction are U.S Fish and Wildlife Service and Department of the Interior.

In the past decade, at least 34 species or unique populations of plants and vertebrates have become extinct in the United States. Worldwide, over 700 extinction of vertebrates, invertebrates, and vascular plants have been recorded since 1600. 99.9% of all species have become extinct. Without extinction, we would not be here today. 137 species disappear each day. And over 50,000 species disappear every year. The breakdown of the rainforest ecosystem will likely lead to the disappearance of up to 10% of the world's species within the next 25 years. In Panama, scientist discovered fully 80% of the worlds currently know beetle species on only 19 trees. Many people survive directly off of the resources in the rainforests. They use plants for food and medicine. That's why species are useful in today's world.

More causes of extinction are Habitat destruction ranks as the leading cause - Especially logging, mining, clearing trees for cattle grazing and building dams and highways where rain forest existed. People trap or kill animals and ship them to other countries, where they are taken as pets or used to make other products. Once a species becomes rare or protected, the profit in smuggling can increase. More rainforest land needs to be protected, and damaged land around protected areas needs to be reforested. Many protected areas are too small to support all the species they shelter.

In conclusion, too many species are dying because of humans destroying the ecosystem. I learned that species extinction is apart of life and we got to get used to it and more species becoming extinct. If we don't try to help save our ecosystem we will all eventually die because we will not have anything to eat. Even someday our species may die out and all of the other animals will have to depend on what we did to try to survive. Species die everyday and it will not stop. Also some careers that you can have if you are interested in learning about species extinction are to be a science teacher, be a scientist, or be an animal care taker. For a science teacher and a scientist you have to go to college and graduate. For an animal care taker you can be one as soon as you get out of high school.
