What is a crucible? A crucible is a time in history when political or cultural changes take an effect, changing a society into a different shape than what it began as. Throughout the play there is a battle between truth and deception that is set in the Protestant town of Salem, Massachusetts. In Salem at this time young women were accusing their elders of witchcraft just to get out of a whipping.
