Curent Event: Scott Peterson Case and Unborn Rights Law.

Anti-abortion activists and conformists are becoming more and more vitalized and heartened due to the charges and convictions against Scott Peterson. Their reasoning is that if Scott Peterson was charged, and convicted, of killing his unborn child, there must be "a legal definition for a human being residing in the womb." They feel that since the fetus was defined as an "unborn human being", it also, consequently, has constitutional rights such as the right to life (birth). It is expected that such a case will go before the courts in California and any other state that allows the prosecution of an individual who is guilty of murdering an unborn. It is also expected that the courts will maintain and uphold their argument. Yet, there are consequences that will affect women and our current laws if the conservative's "life begins at conception" philosophy were to become a law.

These conceptions would then be legally monitored until either birth or miscarriage. Any woman who fails to report a pregnancy, would be guilty of a crime. All miscarriages would then have to be investigated by authorities to confirm that it was a legal death. Any woman who may have caused a miscarriage through ignorance, neglect, carelessness, etc. could be found guilty of a form of manslaughter. Also, any woman who ingests or inhales anything that is potentially harmful to the fetus would be subject to prosecution. Current exceptions in which the court allows abortions to rape and incest victims would be abolished because a law stating human life at conception would not allow the killing of human life, no matter how it was conceived.
