Date rape is a less technical term for acquaintance rape where the offender is identified as a non-relative whom the victim knew personally. However the extent of this relationship may vary from case to case. In some cases, the offender and victim may have been on their first date when the incident occurred while in others, they might be in a steady relationship. Vast body of research on the subject reveals that date rape is a common social problem that is not limited exclusively to college students. Women of all age groups have experienced sexual coercion by a male acquaintance on a date. Pineau (1989) defines date rape as "non-aggravated sexual assault, nonconsensual sex that does not involve physical injury or the explicit threat of physical injury" (Pineau 217). Still date rape is a vaguely defined crime: one factor that has contributed to its growth."

Media and Date Rape With the rise of feminism in the last few decades, there has been a newfound sexual freedom among both men and women.

However, this freedom is costly, causing daterape.

Rape is a real problem. Most people agree rape is horrible. Date rape is also a real problem, but not everyone agrees date rape is horrible. Some people do not even believe that date rape exists. I have real statistics to show you. I want to show you the difference between stranger rape and date rape. You need to know that date rape is a crime surrounded by myths that cause it to be ignored. I want to show you although all forms of rape, including date rape, are against the law, our laws cannot work if our beliefs do not change. I want to put the rape myths out in the light, and give you already know rape myths are false.
