The 1964 cold war thriller by Stanley Kubrick is a comedy film portraying the situation of USA and the U.S.S.R during the Cold War where the American tried to prevent a nuclear apocalypse with the Soviet Union. Dr. Strangelove is a black and white comedic satire. It is a brilliant film by Mr. Kubrick regarding doomsday and the tension of the Cold War. The film was released in the height of the cold war.
The film begins with a fighter plane refueling, where the refueling is portrayed as a sort of sexual intercourse. Then it switches to Jack Ripper, who is an air general and he goes completely and utterly mad, and sends his bomber wing to destroy the U.S.S.R.
The Soviet ambassador tells the American president that if the U.S.S.R. is hit by nuclear weapons, it will automatically trigger a "Doomsday Machine" which will destroy all life on Earth.

I think it is not a coincidence that Mr. Kubrick named the insane general Jack Ripper. The real Jack Ripper was a mass murder; not only does his personality fit with the Jack Ripper in the movie, so do their motives and their actions. By naming the person Jack Ripper, Mr. Kubrick clearly stated who the villain is.
Despite the lame and funny opening, this film carries a very strong message. The movie was made in 1964 where the threats of nuclear weapon were high. 42 years later and the same threat remains.
