Mike Dardis Drivers Ed Highway Signs On highways there are many signs that have many meanings. There are information signs, speed signs, destination signs, guide signs and many others. These types of signs are used for every day driving on a freeway.

One type of sign that you will find on a highway is a guide sign. A guide sign is also known as a destination sign. These types of signs are green with white lettering. These signs are used to tell you which way to go. On these signs there are exit numbers. Theses numbers mark the freeway every mile starting with zero. By using the mile posted number and the exit number you may compute how far you are from the exit you wan to use. The green signs are not only the only guild signs there are also blue signs. The blue signs are used to tell you were there are service or facilities areas along the highway.

Another type of sign that you may find along a highway of a freeway is a speed limit sign. Every road and highway has its own speed limit. The New York state speed limit is 55 miles per hour. These signs are usually white with black lettering. Not only are there a speed limit but there are also signs that indicate road rules. These signs can be white with red lettering. They tell things like not to enter, one way highway only, divided highway etc.

While driving along a highway you may come to a sign that is orange. This is a construction or maintenance sign. These signs tell travelers that there is a construction site up ahead and these signs are posted far enough away that you are able to reduce speed or exit a lane if necessary.

While driving along a highway it is very important to follow the signs. If the signs are not followed it is very easy to get lost. Highway signs are important because they help us with traveling and getting to the places we need to go
