Military personnel have the most important job to our way of life. We deal with multi- billion dollar equipment on a daily basis. We have the lives of our comrades in our hands and we are charged to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States of America. There is absolutely no room for illegal drugs in the military. At any given time we can find ourselves charged with making a decision that will affect the lives of many people and we cannot afford to have our decisions affected by any mind-altering substance. This is why drug testing in the military is very important.
DoD labs test 60,000 urine samples each month. All active duty members must undergo a urinalysis at least once per year. Members of the Guard and Reserves must be tested at least once every two years. Service Members using the utilitarian form of ethics would probably feel that arbitrarily testing soldiers was a direct violation of a soldierÃÂs right to privacy, but we as soldiers give up a lot of rights for the greater good of our country.
