Dynamics of EthicsMany real life scenarios come to mind when studying ethics in the human services field. When thinking of these different situations, we must look at all the dynamics that come into play. According to Freeman, ethics allows us to think about real life situations in which we will be called upon to think about what is right and what is wrong (Freeman, 2000). We have to realize that every decision we make will have an effect on other individuals, specifically our clients. Knowing and realizing that every decision we make must be based on ethical reflection will help us to make the right decision that will benefit our client, organization, and ourselves. The following paper will examine a situation that may arise in the life of a therapist and I will attempt to not only determine my resolution to the scenario, but also research how my decision will effect the client involved.

The ScenarioYou are a therapist in a local county medical center's inpatient psychiatric unit. Uponreporting to your unit one morning, you are confronted by a patient who used to be your bestfriend, whom you have not seen in more than 15 years.

Changes Taking Place and Why Changes are HappeningIn the above scenario, I am at first surprised at being confronted by Mary (fictional name) who was my best friend at one time. Mary greets me like a long-lost friend. Many thoughts are going through my mind at this time. Although I am happy to see her, I am also concerned about what brought her to this place in her life.
