Specific Purpose: For her husband, in which he became partially paralyzed and despondent about his

political future, so she wanted to get her message out as well as keeping his faith alive.

Thesis: Eleanor Roosevelt exhibited leadership in her lifetime by becoming highly active in politics and

humanitarian.

INTRODUCTION

Eleanor Roosevelt was born in 1884 to Elliot and Anna. Both parents died when she was 10. So, Eleanor

and her younger brother were raised by her grandmother Hall. In 1905, she married Franklin D.

Roosevelt. Eleanor became highly active in humanitarian and political groups in the 1920's. When FDR

was elected to governor of NYC and later president, Eleanor played a crucial part in decisions he made.

She became his eyes and ears after Franklin was diagnosed with polio.

Thesis Statement: Eleanor Roosevelt exhibited leadership in her lifetime by becoming highly active in

and humanitarian efforts.

I.Though Roosevelt redefine the role of First Lady, she was born to a wealthy family in New York City.

A. As a young girl, she was lonely and withdrawn.

1. Her mother, Anna Hall Roosevelt, did not pay much attention to her only daughter

and nicknamed her ''Granny.''

2. Her alcoholic father, Elliot Roosevelt, had other things on his mind aside from

attentive parenting.

3.Her parents' deaths within two years of each other, as well as the death of a younger

brother, left Roosevelt and her older brother to be raised by their grandmother and

aunts.

B. Roosevelt spent most of her childhood in her grandmother's house.
