Miss Emily is an old-school southern belle trapped in a society bent on forcing her to stay in her role. Her family's former position was wealthy they were known by there high status. Her economic circumstances have changed her family who was once wealthy left Emily with a burden of owed money in taxes, which brought her down in social class she was left with nothing. The deputation of alderman treats her with the respect that was in the past due to her position and prestige in the town.
