Employment LawEmployment law has transcended the world we live in today. Many of us have benefited from the numerous sacrifices made by others. Over the last ten years, there have been many instances where I have bared witness to various situations where elements of employment law have been applied. These situations involve the application of Age Discrimination Act Family, Americans with Disabilities Act and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), and Pregnancy Discrimination Act. We will also take review the history and evolution of the employment laws. Many of the employment laws have proven to be effective in providing people with equal opportunities in the workforce. The applications of employment laws apply for employers who employ contract laborers, while the application may differ from the basic laws are followed. Employment laws are strongly enforced when the employer has to maintain a working relationship with unions because their relationship ultimately affects all employees who are members of the union.

History and Evolution of Employment LawsAmericans with Disabilities Act, Age Discrimination Act, Family and Medical Leave Act, and Pregnancy Discrimination Act are a few employment laws that have revolutionized the work environment. The Age Discrimination act was enacted in 1967 to prevent age discrimination in the workplace. There were many reasons behind this act taking place based on findings relating to older employees finding themselves disadvantaged in the work environment (EEOC, 1997). The Age Discrimination Act specifically prohibits employers to refuse employment or discharge individuals based on their age, other conditions include reducing compensation, terms, conditions, or privileges of employment (EEOC, 1997).

The Americans with Disabilities Act was an act designed to ensure that people with disabilities have equal opportunities in society. This act was passed in 1990 to prevent discrimination by public entities (Kentucky Office of Americans with Disabilities Act, 2007). Americans...
