Section A:

1.

The writer sounds like even though he desired to train he had not only been lazy to keep to his training schedule but also lacked motivation to go to the gym. He wanted something that would force him off his comfort zone. Behold, the Marathon.

2.

It motivates people to not rely in just their own strength but something deeper that "Defies all logic" and that is "Beyond humanity, and almost transcends the many generations". These words encourage one to experience that feeling for them. The determination and the zeal that he has to finish the Marathon are almost contagious. It makes one seek to also exercise.

3.

I recently entered the Comrades Marathon. I think it was as a result of me not being consistent with my gym attendance. I felt I was wasting my money but lacked the motivation. With just a few weeks ahead I am left with tiff knees and an excruciating pain in my back, amongst other things.

I have also joined a running club where my new friends share tips and methods to help me along the way. They surprisingly consider entering the Comrades fun, which I do not agree. My ideas of fun are very different from theirs. A recent survey by UNISA revealed that the no. 1 motivation for people to be involved in physical activities is "Weight-loss".

Preparation stages for the Marathon remains challenging for me but I have hopes of finishing the race too.
