Abstract

This paper explores Erich Fromm life from when he was a child and only highlighting the major works and important events during his life time. Which research conducted both through internet resources and non-internet resources such a books obtained by the on campus library on Erich Fromm and his works. The articles and the books overlap in the same material both confirming the facts and dismissing misconceived notions about Erich Fromm. Subjects in this paper range from are first understanding of Psychology, his major works, and touch base on the Frankfurt Institute of Social Research.

Erich Fromm

An American psychoanalyst Erich Fromm was born on March 23, 1900, in Frankfort, Germany. Fromm went to the Universities of Heidelberg and Munich, as well as, The Psychoanalytic Institute in Berlin. He received his Ph. D. from Heidelberg in 1922, where afterwards he immigrated to the United States in 1934.

The main reason why Fromm immigrated to the United States was because of all turmoil happening in Germany. The turmoil that was happening at the time was Hitler and the Nazi's party move to power. When inthe United States he studied more psychoanalysis and lectured at many institutions including Bennington College, New York University, Columbia, Yale, Michigan State University, and the William Alanson White Institute of Psychiatry. Fromm was a psychoanalyst and in order to become a psychoanalyst you have to study sixteen years in college in that particular field.
