Essay #2 Second Revision

Peace of Mind

A spiritual belief that is important to me would be meditation. Meditation has a huge number of positive of effects on the brain. The mental and physical are tremendous. Meditation has had a huge impact on my life and has become extremely important to me.

The positive effects that meditation can have on a persons' brain are huge. Neuroscientists now encourage meditation and believe that it actually alters the way the brain is wired. The act of meditating gives the brain a charge that comes from the left prefrontal cortex, which is located behind the left part of a persons' forehead. This charge is electrical activity, also known as gamma waves. The longer you meditate, the more gamma waves are produced. These are the strongest and most important impulses your brain produces.

They increase mental activity and a persons' consciousness. Meditation also strengthens and stabilizes neural network in the medial prefrontal cortex, which is the brain's attention control center. It also in turn, helps you become more aware of your thoughts. Studies of the brain have shown that during meditation, the brain waves are low, similar to those brain waves during sleep. This causes an extreme state of relaxation while still having a strong and sharp awareness.

There are so many health benefits to meditation that encourages me to practice it as well. One of the biggest benefits would be lowering blood pressure. It is proven that all you need is twenty to thirty minutes a day of practice to see results in blood pressure reduction. Another benefit would be the improvement in one's immune system. Meditation boosts person's antibodies, which increases the body's ability to fight infection and disease.
